Speech Recording

Please read the following information carefully before you begin.

About this study: This recording study is part of ongoing research on phonetic language attrition at the University of Graz — investigating how the sounds of your native language can change when you live in a different language environment. The study is connected to the FWF-funded project "When Your Native Language Sounds Foreign" and contributes to a Master's thesis. Your recordings will help us better understand how native language pronunciation is affected by long-term exposure to a second language.

What you will do: You will read short sentences aloud and record yourself. The session takes approximately 20 minutes. You will complete two tasks — you may choose the order.

Before you start (important):

• Please use a laptop or desktop computer (not a phone or tablet).
• Find a quiet room — close windows and silence notifications.
• Sit about 30–50 cm from your microphone and speak clearly at a normal volume.
• For each recording: press Start recording, wait one second, speak, wait one second, then press Stop.

Microphone permission: Your browser will ask for microphone access — please click Allow. You can make a test recording before starting. Test recordings are not saved.

Saving recordings: After each sentence click Accept & save. Your recording will upload — this may take a few seconds. Once the upload is complete you can move to the next sentence.

Data: Audio recordings will be stored securely and used only for research purposes. Data will be anonymised for publication.

Voluntary participation: Participation is voluntary. You may withdraw at any time before submission.
